Electric vehicles vs Gasoline vehicles

The question often arises – which is better – electric vehicle or gasoline vehicle? People using gasoline vehicle favors gasoline vehicle whereas the new generation votes for electric vehicle. People favoring gasoline vehicle says that gasoline vehicles are familiar, easy to refuel and can travel long distances before next refuel whereas electric vehicle doesn’t provide these facilities. On the contrary, supporters of electric vehicle says that in the next few years, the issues against electric vehicle will be resolved as more and more people will adopt the new technology. More charging stations are being set up to meet the demand of charging electric vehicle. So before forming our opinion about either of the two, let us analyze the pros and cons of electric vehicle and gasoline vehicle.

Pros of Electric Vehicles

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows that gasoline vehicle emits an average of 4.6 metric tons of CO2 per year with 22.2 miles per gallon. On the other hand emission of CO2 and other greenhouse gases is zero with the use of electric car. When electric vehicles are charged using renewable energy (solar) then no CO2 is emitted at any phase of vehicle use.

The electric vehicle can also be charged at home. New models of electric vehicles have a voice-enable system which leads to the charging station when asked. Getting electric vehicles charged via solar panels is more efficient. All these factors provide an upper hand to the manufacture, sale and purchase of electric vehicles.

Electric vehicles don’t have many components that need replacing. Electric vehicle last longer than gasoline vehicles because of less wear and tear. Gasoline vehicle cars have a lot of moving parts that need changing at regular intervals.

Pros of Gasoline Vehicles

People have been quite familiar with gasoline vehicles for over a century. Gasoline vehicles are easy to use, easy to fuel and it is suited for long drives too. The price of gasoline car is low in comparison to electric car.  Researchers have made the gasoline engine more fuel-efficient and powerful.

Cons of Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicles have several disadvantages. They are not free from demerits. Some of the demerits are –

The initial cost of electric vehicles is higher than that of gasoline vehicles. Re-fueling gasoline tanks doesn’t take more than five minutes but recharging electric vehicle batteries takes time. If the battery is fully exhausted or depleted then it can take as long as 2 days to get it fully charged. Even the fastest charging station takes 30 minutes to get 80% of charge battery.

A lot of people think that electric vehicles are not a good choice because charging stations are not found as easily as gasoline stations.

We face problems when we are on a long road trip or driving through a village. For the convenience of travellers, many hotel chains provide EV chargers in their parking lots.

Cons of Gasoline Vehicles

The impact of gasoline vehicle over the period has caused problems for the environment. So even if in the recent years it has achieved fuel efficiency and its tailpipe emission is lowered, vehicle lovers know that its life is short. The electric vehicles are being developed at a breakneck pace and the various governmental aids and subsidies are attracting more and more buyers.

Conclusion

Studies indicate that by 2033 electric vehicles will rule the roads of many countries of the world in just a couple of years. Thus we can analyze the above merits and demerits of electric cars and gasoline cars. We can conclude by saying that electric vehicles enjoy an upper hand when compared to gasoline vehicles. With advancing technology, more people are switching to electric vehicles. Setting up charging stations, government subsidies and tax waivers has speeded up the sale of electric vehicles. In short, it can be said that electric vehicles are environmentally friendly.
