Electric vehicles are environment-friendly

The World is One Family

‘THE WORLD IS ONE FAMILY’-By keeping this view in mind we can make our city, state and the world pollution free. CO2 causes harm to our environment because it has a direct impact on our lives. The main reason behind the increase of CO2 is burning fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas and coal for energy. This energy is used for industry and transportation. The amount of carbon dioxide is the highest in our atmosphere. Conventional vehicles emit a lot of carbon dioxide.

The Industrial Revolution started around 1760 with the production being done by machine rather than by hand, after which the automobile industry emerged. Actually, the beginning of the automobile industry started in the 20th century. Both industry and automobiles emit large amounts of carbon. Gasoline vehicle consumption in the world has been increasing very rapidly since the middle of the 20th century. The main reason for this is population, urbanization and increasing living standards of people.

Global CO2 Emissions by Sector from 2019 to 2022

The world over, there is much dependence on roads for the transportation of people and goods despite having other modes of transportation namely water transportation and air transportation. It is equally true that all three modes of transportation emit carbon.

To reduce carbon emissions, we have to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. For this, we should encourage and use EVs instead of gasoline vehicles or conventional vehicles. Gasoline vehicles are environmentally friendly! No, because their energy source is fossil fuels. Whereas electric vehicle tailpipes produce zero-emission, so electric cars is environmentally friendly or we can say that electric car is ECO FRIENDLY. This vehicle has lithium-ion battery charged through electricity. The vehicle does not burn fossil fuels. It is also important to know the source behind the charging of EVs. If it is renewable energy like solar energy or wind energy or other renewable energy, then it produces zero carbon emissions and it will be very good for our environment.

Electric Vehicles Consume Optimum Energy Utilization

The electric motor in an electric vehicle produces a lot of energy. In comparison to a conventional vehicle, the electric motor converts more than 85% of the electric energy into mechanical energy, whereas in a conventional vehicle, it converts only about 60 to 70%. So in this way, the energy loss in electric vehicles is only 10 to 20% whereas in conventional vehicles it is much higher.

There are two types of battery in an electric vehicle – one battery is used to start the vehicle which is 12 volts and the other battery is made of lithium-ion which is used to run the vehicle. This battery is very powerful and it is charged by electricity. When we apply brakes while driving, the energy produced gets stored and this is called regenerative braking. Whereas in conventional or gasoline vehicles this energy is not able to be stored and that energy gets lost.

In this way, electric vehicles reduce CO2 emissions by using optimum energy and preventing energy loss.

Electric Vehicles -Less Noise Pollution

Electric vehicle makes very less noise whereas gasoline vehicle makes a lot of noise. Due to this noise pollution increases and it is directly related to our health. All over the world, vehicles are running on the roads 24 X 7 producing and increasing noise pollution. The hearing ability of the people is deteriorating because of too much noise. Lack of sleep makes man mentally and physically tired. The working capacity of such a person gets reduced. Noise pollution has the greatest impact on children, old people and patients. It affects not only humans but also animals and birds.

Government Policies and Public Awareness Program

The government should provide low-interest loans, tax rebates and grants to companies for setting up electric vehicle production units. This in turn will encourage companies to set up electric vehicle production units. The companies should also focus on research and development adding new technologies and features to electric vehicles.

The government should also provide low-interest loans and tax benefits to electric vehicle buyers. So more and more people are encouraged to buy electric vehicles.

The government should run a public awareness program for the promotion of EVs. The features of EVs should be advocated that its buyer will get a tax rebate and the maintenance cost of EV is much less, the running cost per mile is also low, and it releases less carbon into the environment.

Electric Vehicle’s Battery

There are two types of batteries in an electric vehicle. The first battery is 12 volts and the second is lithium-ion. The 12-bulb battery is small and is used for starting the vehicle, light, media system and security system. When we drive a vehicle, the DC-DC converter automatically keeps charging itself.

The most important part of an electric vehicle is the lithium battery. It is also called the main battery of the electric vehicle. Its main function is to drive the vehicle. Energy is stored in this battery. This battery is very powerful and its weight is also very heavy. The battery is situated on the floor of the electric vehicle.

Mining of Lithium-ion

To extract lithium-ion, big trucks and other equipment are used for mining. These trucks run on diesel. To extract lithium from the mixture, the mixture is sent to the factory where a lot of energy is spent to separate the lithium from the mixture. A lot of carbon emissions are generated from big trucks, other equipment and factories. This is not good for our environment. For lithium mining and processing, we can learn from Sweden’s copper mine and its processing.

According to dw.com, this copper mine and factory is in Sweden. This is the largest copper mine in Europe. The big trucks and other equipment used in the mine are electric hybrids, which have electric motors and diesel engines. By 2030, all the trucks and other equipment of the mine will run on electric motors. These trucks and other equipment will run on electricity supplied through overhead wires and this electricity will also be obtained through renewable energy. This factory where copper is separated from the mixture runs on renewable energy. The company then sells its product under the name of “Green Copper”.

CONCLUSION

The question is, Are electric vehicles environment friendly? Yes, Electric vehicles are environment-friendly. But we have to go a long way where EVs can be charged via renewable energy. Lithium mining also has to be made environment friendly.
