Electric car sales exceeded 1 million in 2017, 5 million in 2021, 10 million in 2022, and 14 million in 2023. It means that the sale of electric cars has increased fourteen fold in just seven years and threefold in three years.

According to Rho Motion, the electric car sales rose to 31% in 2023. The trend of sales is increasing every year.  U.S., Europe and China have dominated global electric vehicle sales. One out of every seven cars sold in the world is an EV. Companies that are making major contributions to sales in the world are Tesla (U.S.), Volkswagen (Germany) and BYD (China).

Till date, Tesla is the global leader in electric cars. Tesla Model Y and Tesla Model 3 come in the top three best sellers worldwide. Tesla is a U.S.-based company and its headquarters are in Texas, U.S. Elon Musk is the CEO of Tesla. Tesla’s manufacturing units are in the U.S. and China.

President Joe Biden and the EU have set a goal to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. China has set a goal to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2060.

President Joe Biden offers a federal tax credit of $7,500 for the purchase of new electric vehicles. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Biden government also provides a $623 million grant to help build an electric vehicle charging station. EU and China have also introduced electric vehicle-related policies to support manufacturers and consumers.

BYD Auto models Qin, Song, Dolphin and Yuan were the best-selling EVs in 2023. BYD Auto Co. Ltd is a subsidiary company of BYD Company. It is a leading manufacturer of electric vehicles in the world. BYD Auto was founded in 2003.  Its headquarters is in Shenzhen, China. BYD Auto manufactures battery electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrid battery electric vehicles (PHEVs)

Since 2021, it has been expanding sales in overseas markets in North America, Europe and Southeast Asia. Its popular brands in electric cars are BYD Seal, BYD Auto, and BYD Han. BYD also manufactures battery electric buses and trucks.

More than half of all the electric cars sold in the world are sold in China then comes Europe and in third place is the U.S. This is because the Chinese government is promoting the manufacturing and sale of EVs a lot. There is a lot of infrastructure available and awareness among the people for electric vehicles and there are many local manufacturers in which BYD Auto is prominent.
